There you are Bernadette!

The other day my husband and I had a date night to see our lady of Amazingness Cate Blanchett do what she does best in 'Where'd you go Bernadette?'. It has been a book that we've both loved for a very long time so we were a little nervous, however those feelings ebbed from the moment Seattle appeared in a glorious fog.
This is not a film review, though if you want my opinion and all of you should go and see it immediately as it is just lovely. The take home message I received from Richard Linklater's film was beautifully delivered by Laurence Fishburne.
"People like you must create, if they don't, they become a menace to society".
Now I don't pretend that I have anywhere near enough effect on the world around me to become a menace to society, but I do know when I'm becoming a menace to myself.
I think as actors we all have these moments. People who draw, play music, write, can all do these things autonomously but with acting it can't always be monologues, at some point you need someone else for that spark to happen, for that moment of creativity to shine through and feed your soul.
It resonated with me so much that I cried walking home from the theatre, I felt a little silly but I understood. It's just so easy to put your creativity on the back burner. I have ideas, but they amount to nothing if I don't get out and do them. I'm working on it. So I suppose this blog post really is just from one artist to any and all out there who get it, find your Bernadette, find that crazy talent you know you have and nurture it again.
